Early Head Start Teacher Assistant

Under the supervision of EHS teachers, provide a safe and nurturing environment, responsive care, and high quality individualized learning experiences to a group of up to eight (8) EHS infants and toddlers. Use age appropriate materials and evidence-based best practices to support children's growing social, emotional, intellectual, language, motor, and cognitive competencies. Establish and maintain positive and productive partnerships with the children's families, community partners and EHS and Head Start staff. Executive Assistant to the President/CEO

This position has a critical role in supporting the detailed administrative requirements of a chief executive leading a large nonprofit corporation. Oversees and ensures the automation, implementation and maintenance of policies, systems, procedures, publications, forms, public relations materials, and other related items for the corporation. Leads a team of clerical and informational assistants to ensure: scheduling and management of a customer-friendly reception of visitors and telephone calls to STEP’s Main Office; drafting and proofreading of correspondence; creation and finishing of documents; standardization of administrative procedures; the collection, organization and management of administrative data and information; keeping of nonfinancial organizational records; management of calendars and appointments as assigned; and research and compilation of reports. The position assumes or is assigned complex administrative objectives of variable duration involving multiple departments or the entire organization, where a detailed, high-level coordination and implementation plan is required for completion. Minimum requirements: Associate’s Degree (or other post-secondary degree) specializing in business, management information, office administration, or a related field, or any combination of education and experience, sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills and abilities needed for the position; three years’ successful experience with: desktop productivity tools using all products within Microsoft Office Suite (Professional), Microsoft Publisher, and related software products; clerical and administrative responsibilities utilizing a variety of office equipment and demonstrating a high-level of attention to detail; customer service, receptionist or related work in a high-volume office environment; supervisory experience.

Team Member Needed for STEP's Financial Management Department

Accountant I

Supporting STEP, Inc. and all of its Pathways to Success, this is highly responsible work in the fiscal administration of corporate financial systems, exercising initiative and independent judgment within the framework of existing policies, procedures and precedents. Work involves applying prescribed accounting principles and techniques to the treatment of accounting transactions, and the preparation, maintenance and control of accounting documents, records and systems. The position prepares financial status reports, reimbursement requests and invoices. The position assists in providing technical assistance to program directors on fiscal administration issues, in budgeting and monitoring, and in other areas of corporate fiscal administration, as assigned. Minimum qualifications include the following: bachelor’s degree in accounting with three years accounting experience which includes computerized fund accounting experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities; and, experience which demonstrates technological competence, including the ability to understand, capitalize upon and enhance information system within the framework of a complex computer network utilizing common word processing, electronic messaging, spreadsheet and database software.

Construction Laborer

This is a multi-faceted position requiring the individual to perform tasks and assignments across a broad range of new and rehabilitation-related construction projects, either independently, with an assigned work crew and/or in conjunction with other Construction Supervisors allocated to the project. Qualification include a High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); and a minimum of two years of experience or technical training in construction, building trades, or other related discipline sufficient to demonstrate a thorough understanding of construction theory and techniques such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, physical plant maintenance, or any combination of education and experience, sufficient to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities. This position also must obtain a passing grade in all courses required of a Material Installer by the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development.

Construction Supervisor

Full Time Position Performs tasks and assignments across a broad range of new and rehabilitation-related construction projects, either independently, with an assigned work crew and/or in conjunction with other Construction Supervisors allocated to the project. Construction activities include those designed to increase energy efficiency, health, safety, accessibility and affordability; examples of these activities include, but are not limited, to major renovations such as bathroom, kitchen, accessibility improvements, structural repairs and other major building component projects. Responsible for the construction phase of housing rehabilitation projects including on-site supervision of the assigned work crew, quality assurance, meeting production schedules and codes compliance for assigned construction activities. The position completes detailed paperwork and communicates with customers having diverse social and economic backgrounds. Essential qualifications include a High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED); Minimum of two years of field experience in existing residential housing rehabilitation including, but not limited to, remodeling and renovation of existing residential structures, technical training in construction, building trades, design engineering, or other related disciplines sufficient to demonstrate a thorough understanding of construction theory and techniques such as advanced carpentry, estimating, customer service, or any combination of education and experience, sufficient to demonstrate possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities; and, Demonstrated ability to supervise work crews in the field.

AmeriCorps Members Needed
for STEP's
Community Collaboration Pathway to Success

STEP’s Community Connect AmeriCorps is currently recruiting members to begin service mid-to-late September. AmeriCorps is the national service program that provides thousands of Americans of all ages and backgrounds with education awards in exchange for a year of community service. Full-time members who complete their service earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,730 to pay for college, graduate school or vocational training at eligible institutions, pay back qualified student loans or if member is at least 55 years of age at beginning of service term, may transfer award to child, grandchild or foster child. AmeriCorps members receive a modest bi-weekly living allowance, student-loan forbearance, health coverage, and child care for those who qualify while participating.  Members who serve half-time receive a living allowance and a $2,865 education award. AmeriCorps is not employment.
